Beautiful Evening at Burnell Lake

Painting at Burnell Lake

What started out as an innocent location scout for fly fishing and painting got a little sketchy after taking a few wrong turns.

Beautiful evening at Sawmill

When my bud Cam wanted to go fly fishing and new a spot near town, I was game. For where there's good fishing, there's good scenery for painting. In my past experience, lakes are pretty close to the road. Not this one. Google maps gave us directions to a point as

we lost reception and we thought it would be easier. That's when we asked a quader where the lake was, and in his backcountry accent let us know we took a couple wrong turns. But getting back on track sounded easy enough. Just go that way, that way, and that way. And you're there.

Not that easy. We went down some roads that would have been sketchy on my (RIP) dirtbike. But a couple more wrong turns, many new scratches on my truck, we found Burnell Lake. And the wait was worth it. What a view. Calm waters. Sun setting. An inpromptu campfire. A case of milkwaukee's, and a painting to boot.

Not to mention some cool peeps Campbell and Jayna.
